There are many and varied ways that our sensitive data is collected and stored as we leave our personal digital footprint.
Our personal details have always been required for business exchanges but never before have we reached a level where our information is used so specifically and intentionally through the channels of social media.
In the recent past we have seen changes in privacy laws and where once you could locate addresses and phone numbers and a greater awareness of privacy in the ‘real world’.
However as laws have tightened in this way, there seems to be a stark contrast between this and the online world. Since we are more reliant upon our gadgets than ever it poses a risk to being a more vulnerable target each time we are online.
Marketing experts rely on creating advertising that appeals to their target markets and with the assistance of cookies and other tracking devices this allows them to zero in to this market faster and more specifically before.
In terms of working with children in the therapeutic play space it is vital to protect my clients interests even in relation to what is shared with their parents. It is important to ask their permission before I share details of our sessions with their parents first.
This seems an obvious question to ask as in this situation, as I act as an advocate for the child to help support the relationship with them that we have in the play space.
After the session ends I create an email report that summarises a portion of what happened in it. to assist the family to gauge what is happening for their child’s unique point of view in the setting.
One of the main reasons why I write this is to help sensitively guide aspects of the relationship between the child and their parents outside of it, once the family is reunited.
Ultimately the tools I create help me to know who I can help and how I can help to support them wholistically across my practice.
