Today I choose to write a new life story.
The woman stood under the oak tree looking at her beloved.
He was on bended knee.
With a beautiful gloss white box, tied up with a golden ribbon.
He handed it to the woman, who looked at it confused.
“What is it my love?” she asked.
To which he replied.
“It is a gift.
The precious gift of life.
It is yours.
I give it to you freely.
Do with it, whatever you like….
I have but one request.”
The woman looked at her beloved with tears in her eyes and nodded earnestedly.
“Yes?” she asked.
“Do tell me my love….what is the request you ask….?”
The man smiled.
“Will you write a story for me?” he asked
“A new story….”
The woman giggled.
“My love…” she said.
“I am no scribe.
I have no such skill to write with these hands…I could never do justice to the gift you are offering…”
The man smiled at his beloved and pulled her close.
“If you can not write with your hands my love…” he whispered.
The woman stared at the gift inside the gloss white box….precious and priceless and given to her to do as she wished.
She was overwhelmed with the possibility of it all, and couldn’t help but shed a tear.
“My love…” she began.
“The gift you offer is precious.
As much as I appreciate it…I’m sorry to say that I can not accept it….however what I can do is offer a compromise, as I would still like to give that for which you have asked.
I will write you a story as requested my love, but this time I shall write it with my own life, and not yours.
You keep your precious life my love…you keep it for you…as nothing would see me happier than to watch you live out your dreams fully.
And so it shall be, that I will embrace my own life.
And I shall write a story…a new life story….and I will share it with you as per your request.”
The woman pulled herself out of the man’s hold.
She handed him back the gift of life, watching as he closed the lid on the gloss white box and placed it back into his pocket.
“A new life story…..” she murmured……
Today I shall choose to write a new life story….one that is written with my life and not yours.”
